Yes yes y'all! It’s been a minute and today, we are proud to bring you the epic… the incredible…
House of PainT X final break dance battle!
The throw down at the Main Event (September 14 at the Dunbar Underpass) was unlike any before in the history of the Capital City. After a long day of battling, two crews emerged as the top of the top: Floor Assassins Militia (F.A.M., Toronto) and Groundwork Sessions Crew (GWS, North West Territories), who went toe-to-toe for a nail-biting battle that had the crowd riveted.
The battle was set to the incomparable sounds of the Soul Jazz Orchestra's Battle Suite. Commissioned by House of PainT specifically for the final battle, the composition featured a selection of 16 songs that fused breaks and hip hop classics by the likes of DJ Kool, James Brown and DJ Shadow. Woven into the mix were afro and ethio-jazz compositions by Manu Dibango and Multatu Astatke, topped off by Souljazz originals Agoya and Insurrection.
Professionally filmed by the Dan Rascal crew, this video captures the excitement of the moment. And it just goes to show you why House of PainT won the Outstanding Production award at The Toronto Festival of Urban Dance Culture this past October!
Please share, and we’ll see you again next year from September 10 to the 14, 2014.
Big ups from the House of PainT fam!
